Sunday hops, 6-30-24.
A weekly compendium emptying the bench, with Rangers developments, rumors, and takes — and yes, a little TROT COFFEY.
There are days when you sort of don’t want to hit refresh on Sports Twitter. This one qualifies. The thought of losing Corey Seager to a wrist injury just as Josh Jung is (hopefully) poised to come back from his isn’t quite more than I can take, but it would rocket almost to the top of a very crowded 2024 bummer list.
In-game X-rays were negative on Saturday, but the phrase “will be evaluated further” is that ominous, low-frequency, minor-chord infrasound that beds those horror movie scenes that you feel pretty confident are not going to turn out particularly well for the good guys. Sort of the Rangers fan equivalent of Seager screaming profanities and walking back to the dugout, head down, before the trainer even got to him.
That’s what it feels like today, at least. Too much of this season has been a horror show.
On to this week’s Hops.
