108 things I love about baseball.
Inspired by, and expanding slightly on, the great Joe Posnanski’s palatial undertaking. This one goes to 108.
I’m not afraid to borrow (or to admit to borrowing) an idea here and there from the estimable Joe Posnanski. I do it annually at year’s end. Now I’m doing it on what I expect will be a one-and-done — though this story isn’t a year in the making.
This one’s a lifetime in the making.
Joe kicked off a post three months ago this way: “I woke up this morning and thought, ‘I should write 100 things I love about baseball after all these years.” It was four days after the World Series had ended, and he thought it would a helpful way to help him get through the winter.
Dutifully, I began to devour Joe’s list, as I do almost everything he writes — and within minutes, I decided I should take my own crack at the challenge. But I knew it would take me some time to really think and work through.
As my list began to take shape, I decided I wouldn’t have wanted to share it at the very end of a season even if I could — but instead at the very start of one.
Today is a day worth celebrating, and this is one way I’d like to do that.
I hope some of what follows resonates with you and your own relationship with the game . . . and I hope you’ll feel welcome to share your own “things” in the Comments. I’m sure plenty of yours will make me wish I’d included them with mine.
Here we go: 108 things I love about baseball:
