A-Rod, steroids.
We got DirecTV installed Saturday morning. Once the technician was able to begin testing signal strength, I put it on MLB Network immediately. I expected to see some old World Series footage, or maybe some Hot Stove talk with spring training just a week away. Instead, my first-ever taste of MLB Network was Matt Vasgersian, Tom Verducci, Harold Reynolds, and Dan Plesac in the network's studios, an impromptu gathering to discuss the breaking news that Alex Rodriguez was one of 104 players who tested positive for performance- enhancing drugs in 2003. A-Rod, who won his third straight home run title that year and his first MVP award, reportedly tested positive sometime that season for two anabolic steroids. Among his Rangers teammates in 2003 was Rafael Palmeiro. Dark day. It was looking like the lead story in the game as teams report to camp in Florida and Arizona was going to be Manny Ramirez and more than 50 others still looking for work. Not any more.
