KC masterpiece.
All along I was hoping Texas would draw Kansas City rather than Toronto. Thought the Royals’ fastball-heavy rotation was a better matchup for the Rangers, and the left-handed tilt of their lineup was a better matchup, too.
They should have never gotten past the Astros, who had them on the brink of elimination and spit it up, but this is baseball and Kansas City is an awesome baseball team that earned everything it came away with.
But man. I really think Texas – the Texas team that took it to the Jays on the road in Games One and Two – could have taken the Royals down.
And the Mets.
But it’s cool.
That was a great baseball season, both here and on an MLB scale.
The Day After is always a bit of a letdown, but it won’t be long before activity starts firing right back up. The Rangers have to decide by Friday at 4:00 Central whether to tender a qualifying offer (one year at $15.8 million) to Yovani Gallardo (I feel almost certain they will, if only to tee up a compensatory June draft pick after the first round), and the righthander will then have until the following Friday to decline the offer, or become the first player to ever accept the QO since the process was introduced four years ago.
Wonder whether Gallardo will know by then who his pitching coach would be if he were to stay.
We should start taking preorders for the 2016 Bound Edition well before we get clarity on Gallardo’s situation. Stand by for that.
Good job, KC.
Wish Texas had a shot at you guys.
