Newberg Report Mailbag v.10.
This week: Fixing the offense, Eovaldi's market, the Walcott timeline, how the prospect depth on the mound stacks up historically, and more.
There’s not really a silver lining to be found in October when your World Series championship defense ends without a postseason ticket, but I’ve gotta say, while I had very important sports-reasons last year not to pay a whole lot of attention to what was going on in the seven playoff series in which the Rangers didn’t participate, I can’t imagine they were as riveting on the whole as these playoffs have been so far.
From the Astros extending a very long home playoff losing streak and the Orioles extending a very long playoff losing streak, park-independent — two streaks the Rangers inherited and left intact in 2023 — to Shohei on this stage, to the Padres and the Mets giving this sport a pretty good dose of what it could really use more of . . . it’s all been pretty great.
Except for that Rangerlessness part.
Next year.
Let’s get to this week’s nine.
