NEWBERG REPORT NIGHT
It's time to make your reservations for Newberg Report Night at Rangers Ballpark, which will be on Sunday, August 3, against the Blue Jays. One of the potentially cool things about doing this the first few days of August will be the possibility that the team will have one or more new players in the lineup, in the wake of the July 31 trade deadline – whether it's prospects brought in or brought up to join the club, or veterans acquired for the stretch run.
We were at absolute capacity both last year and the year before – so please make your reservations as soon as you know you'll be attending. Once we reach auditorium capacity, we'll have to close registration.
A ticket to the Sunday, August 3 event costs $30 a person. Details:
1. JON DANIELS: For the fourth straight year, Rangers GM Jon Daniels will take your questions for 90 minutes in the auditorium adjoining the Legends of the Game Museum between the first base and center field entrances to the ballpark. Having the Q&A session right after the trade deadline should make it even cooler. I would suggest arriving between 4:00 and 4:30 so you can take care of things downstairs before getting settled for the Daniels Q&A, which will last from 5:00 until 6:30.
2. WILL CARROLL & JOE SHEEHAN: Baseball Prospectus writer Will Carroll, who delivers the renowned "Under the Knife" column and has authored several books, including "Saving the Pitcher" and "The Juice: The Real Story of Baseball's Drug Problems," will join us as well, as he has every year that we've held Newberg Report Night, and this year, Joe Sheehan, co-founder of Baseball Prospectus, will be with us, too. Will and Joe will conduct a Q&A session in the auditorium from 4:00 until 5:00, as the warmup act for Jon Daniels.
3. DONATIONS: Once again, the event will include a charitable effort that we can all participate in. We will benefit the Hello Win Column Fund again this year. The Hello Win Column was established in July 2005, in memory of Mark and Alice Holtz. Mark's daughter, Cindy Kuster, and her husband, Jeff Kuster, established the fund as a way to continue Mark and Alice's legacy and support other families impacted by cancer. Money raised in the Hello Win Column Fund is used to support DFW-area cancer programs, such as the Ronald McDonald House. The Kuster family also donates Rangers tickets for more than 50 games each season to cancer patients and their families.
You are invited to donate any amount to the Hello Win Column Fund when you arrive on August 3; for every $10 you donate (cash, check, or money order), you will get one ticket for that evening's raffle. No limit. The raffle includes the following so far:
1.) Baseball signed by Blake Beavan, Chris Davis, German Duran, Kason Gabbard, Kameron Loe, Doug Mathis, John Mayberry Jr., Brandon McCarthy, Travis Metcalf, Taylor Teagarden, Johnny Whittleman, C.J. Wilson, and Jamey Wright.

4.) Ben Harrison signed Official Major League baseball
5.) Edinson Volquez signed Official Major League baseball

8.) 2001 lineup card from Michael Young's sixth game in the big leagues
9.) Chris Davis signed and dated nameplate from Texas Rangers FanFest, January
2007
10.) 2003 autographed, game-used Juan Dominguez Rangers home jersey
11.) 2008 Newberg Report Bound Edition, signed by German Duran, Doug Mathis, Chris Davis, Johnny Whittleman, & Blake Beavan
12.) one copy of the original 1996 First Edition Baseball Prospectus book
13-22.) 10 subscriptions to Baseball Prospectus
Whoever makes the largest donation on the 3rd will get his or her choice of any of the prizes. The remaining prizes will be raffled off.
In addition, courtesy of Jeff Kuster, everyone who donates at least $20 gets a four-volume, full-color limited edition set called "The Life and Times of Nolan Ryan: A Historic Journey of Excellence," in its original, unopened packaging. Each volume chronicles the life of Nolan Ryan ("The Alvin Years"..."The Mets & Angels Years"..."The Astros & Rangers Years"...and "The Road to Cooperstown"), complete with color photographs and newspaper clippings going all the way back to his high school days. Also included are four commemorative Ryan baseball cards made by Score exclusively for the set. It's a really, really cool keepsake.
4. AUCTION: Just before the Daniels Q&A, we will auction off the following, with all proceeds going to the Hello Win Column Fund:
* Four tickets (Section 223: which is in the Lexus Club Level, just beneath the press box) and a reserved parking spot for Rangers-Yankees on Tuesday, Aug. 5, plus four Hello Win Column Fund T-shirts (XL) and four Rangers caps, courtesy of Cindy & Jeff Kuster
* Same package for Wednesday, Aug. 6
* Eight dozen cookies from the renowned Cookie Lady (two dozen each of her Snickerdoodles, Pineapple/Pecan with Caramel Icing, Oatmeal/Raisin, and Chocolate Chip, made famous by the Rangers players and broadcasters who have been her regular beneficiaries)
* An inning in the TV booth with Josh Lewin & Tom Grieve, courtesy of Josh
5. SPECIAL GUESTS: In each of the last two years we made arrangements to host a family impacted by cancer at the event. We plan to do it again this year. Cindy Kuster, the daughter of the late Mark Holtz, will act on behalf of the Hello Win Column Fund as a liaison between the Ronald McDonald House and the Newberg Report and help select the family who will participate.
6. THE GAME: We're going to have lower-level seats in the stadium this year, instead of luxury suites. We don't yet know where in the stadium the seats will be – that will depend largely on the number of people who attend. Of course, you'll still be able to sit with who you want (whether you have a large group or just a few family members or friends).
7. PROMOTION: It's a $1 Ice Cream Sunday for fans 13 & under.
8. Note: Parking is not included.
Please sign up and pay as soon as you know you'll be coming. We need to give the Rangers advance notice as to how many seats we'll need. And again, it's first come, first served.
The cost, once again, is $30, and you can pay in one of two ways:
1. You can order by credit card through PayPal by going to www.paypal.com, selecting the "Send money" option, and typing in gjsneaker@sbcglobal.net where you are prompted for the e-mail account.
2. Or you can send a check or money order, payable to "Jamey Newberg," to:
