Spring Training Game 4: Three Up, Three Down.

A lineup of semi-regulars and fringe players puts up two crooked innings — while the pitchers shove.

I won’t do gamers every day — especially during spring training — but was able to listen today while at work and can get you a quick 3U/3D on this one. I’m motivated; some good things today.

Three Up, Three Down from Texas 6, Los Angeles (AL) 0.

Up First.

It’s hard to win a job in less than a week, but you would think Sam Haggerty — just a tremendous non-roster pickup a year ago by this team’s pro scouting operation — has nailed his down as a right-handed platoon bat. With a walk, a flyout, and a two-out, bases-loaded, two-run single today, all against lefties, he’s now 4 for 5 with a double and the walk, with no strikeouts.

As a .318/.376/.435 (.812 OPS) hitter against southpaws last season, Haggerty is a really important piece of the puzzle here given that at least three starters (Evan Carter, Joc Pederson, and Josh Smith) are candidates to need a 1A who hits from the right side.

Up Second.

Two of the three* Rangers relievers whose work I’m most interested in got work today, and didn’t disappoint.
