Sunday hops, 6-29-25.
A weekly compendium emptying the bench, with Rangers developments, rumors, and takes — and yes, a little TROT COFFEY.
The next four days feel big.
Texas wraps up with Seattle this afternoon, then hosts the Orioles — who, in their first game after Jacob Latz and Jacob deGrom took no-hitters deep against them, put up 22 runs against the Rays — for three before heading out on a 10-day, Padres-Angels-Astros road trip that leads into the All-Star Break.
With the draft starting two weeks from today, and the burners on trade deadline activity getting dialed up right afterwards, you might expect that front offices and head baseball operations officials around the league are bunkered down now to prepare for both.
As far as the Rangers are concerned, those gatherings surely involve a day-to-day barometer check to gauge what this team, hovering around .500 and on the lip of the Wild Card race (and right behind the aforementioned Mariners and Angels, making these head-to-heads even bigger), is right now and projects to be in two or three months.
Because some high-leverage decisions will have to be made within this next month.
These games are big.
On to this week’s Hops.
