My final visit to Globe Life Field in 2024 was, well . . . very 2024.

Throughout my life as a sports fan, I can remember plenty of late-September day games like yesterday’s. Games with the Rangers out of the race, the Cowboys occupying 10 out of 10 talk radio segments, kids in school. We’ve flipped past the calendar transition from summer to fall, and yet it’s still 99 degrees. There’s a tinge of sadness underscoring it all.

The big difference between Thursday afternoon’s series finale against Toronto was that the 99-degree temps, this time, were kept outside the building.

Another big difference was the anticipation of what we were going to see, both from a “now” perspective and in terms of a personified promise that things could be getting better very soon. Kumar Rocker was set to make his lone Globe Life Field appearance of 2024.
