And somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringin’
And it echoed through the canyons
Like the disappearing dreams of yesterday
As we close the book sharing the story that the Texas Rangers wrote in 2024, I have two questions for you. A pair of sports issues for you to resolve.
This is not the front office weighing in on whether to cash Cole Ragans in for Aroldis Chapman, or the fanbase in the immediate aftermath. It’s not you and me handicapping who the next Dallas Cowboys head coach should be. It’s not crowdsourcing which local team will be next to host a parade.
Open-book, no time limit, consult a friend. And no Monty Hall problem here. What I’m about to ask you to do is rely completely on hindsight.
First, whatcha got: the 2009-2016 Texas Rangers? Or the 2017-2024 Rangers? Not which run had your favorite moment, because that’s a layup. No, what I want to know is which eight-year stretch was more rewarding for you? Which one was less demoralizing?
Which one was better?
And second: whose season do you want in immediate retrospect: the 2024 Rangers? Or the 2024 Diamondbacks?
