The Rangers bring Chris Martin back home.
That leaves (at least) one very clear order of business.
The Rangers announced tonight that they have signed right-handed reliever Chris Martin to a one-year contract. Terms have not been disclosed, but a report out of Boston, where Martin spent the last two seasons, suggests he agreed to take less money from Texas than at least one other team was willing to pay him.
Aside from making an overwhelming amount of sense — for both the team and the player — Martin fits a very specific and important profile. He’s absolutely an eighth-inning guy . . . and absolutely not a ninth-inning guy. Both truths, I believe, are good news here.
