Treanor DL'd, Teagarden recalled
According to multiple local reports, Texas is placing catcher Matt Treanor on the disabled list with a strained right posterior cruciate ligament, recalling Frisco catcher Taylor Teagarden to replace him on the active roster. Since going to down to AA after a month in Texas and a week in Oklahoma City, Teagarden has hit .281 in May, .250 in June, and .193 in July, striking out 75 times in 52 games. He was reportedly the choice over RedHawks receivers Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Max Ramirez because the club wanted the catcher most capable of controlling the running game in his role as Bengie Molina's backup, in Treanor's absence. Giving this move some thought, it makes sense in that Molina is an obvious candidate to be pulled for a pinch-runner in close and late situations. In that case, you want your number two catcher to be able to enter the game in the eighth or ninth and make it less likely that the other team takes the double play away by running on you – no matter how trustworthy the catcher's bat might be, since that spot in the order is probably not very likely to come back around anyway.
