Another home run, Wyatt may catch up, but you’ve got the early lead.

Damn. Enjoyed this. Would love to see all the WS records broken and this and any other good nuggets compiled into one nice 3x5. I would pay for it and frame it on my desk!

I went to UF to watch a game with my soon-to-graduate son. We both wished Wyatt could be a Ranger. Some dreams come true.

Of course, $400 for a jersey?!? That’s a nightmare

That was an incredibly fun read Jamey.

You could say luck is involved in getting Langford. Luck is the residue of hard work. Your hard work is greatly appreciated.

Jamey , I would totally buy a "Rangers Butterfly Effect" book if one were on the market! That would be so interesting to read. I know that Jon didn't plan all of this and that because some were just too lucky to fall into place but just from the luck (or lack of said luck). Who have we missed out on due to this too?

I would love to write that book -- but it'll have to be years from now when I have less on my plate....

Jamey you would be a great candidate to (eventually) write a more general book about the history of the franchise. "Texas Rangers: The First 51 years". It would be hilarious comedy mixed with great tragedy, but with a real crowd-pleaser of an ending!

Would be so cool but can’t imagine when I’d ever have the time. TR Sullivan should write it now.

Awww, you could have time if you gave up on all that lawyering mumbo jumbo!!! I'm sure your wife would understand........ Just tell her "Perry Asked"

Daaamn! How do you keep all that info and put it out like this? Jamey is a Mathemagician. Or a Witch Lol.

Like how the top five ranked in their desired draft order? Would they have Langford first or fourth if they had a choice

Kelly Foster's avatar

Fred, Asst GM Ross Fenstermaker has said the Rangers had Langford #1 on their board pre-draft.

Fred B Vinson's avatar

Kelly, I hadn't saw that. There was so much misinformation prior and after the draft, couldn't be sure. Thanks

one of the best pieces you've ever written Jamey... fantastic.

Jamey Newberg's avatar

Thanks, man. Appreciate that.

I’ve never heard the official ranking from the Rangers. Do you know? Or will they never say in order to not hurt feelings or reveal secrets?

This was such a great read! I love your style. And the “I guess we’ll never know” quote never ever gets old!

Jamey Newberg's avatar

It will never not be a punch line here.

Jamey, great piece as we are in the eve of opening day!

I love this Tweet by AJM.

The Astros were purposely so bad for so many years to get top picks that MLB had to change the rules and implement a draft lottery.

The 1st ever draft lottery saw Texas jump from 7 to 4 in the draft order.

So the Astros tanking shenanigans is why Texas now has Wyatt Langford.

They averaged 100+ losses over a 5 year period. The Rangers have only lost 100+ 3 times in their existence since they moved to Arlington.
