Spring training 2026, Day 3.
No need to be delusional about Cam Cauley. He already is.
It was a first for me.
While I’m routinely printing exhibits as part of my preparation in my day job, I’d never done it for a baseball interview. But that streak was about to be busted. I decided to put a color printer to use before talking to Cam Cauley.
It was probably a waste of time.
Not that Caden Scarborough and Jack Wheeler aren’t navigating intense, highly regimented schedules in Surprise this month — they absolutely are, probably more so than ever in their lives — but with Cauley, I was extra sensitive to the demands on his time. Not only is he still in big league camp on the first official non-roster invite of his six-year pro career, but he’s also having to abide by the rules and expectations of a new manager and several new coaches who don’t have a lot of history with him. The last thing I wanted to do was to disrupt his routine, or put him in any sort of bind with his time.
