The Newberg Report

Sunday hops, 10-6-24.

A weekly compendium emptying the bench, with Rangers developments, rumors, and takes — and yes, a little TROT COFFEY.

The 2024 season, at least for the Rangers, is in the rearview mirror. Time to look forward, with the man in charge of baseball operations in place, the manager in place, and the core of the roster largely in place.

But Chris Young is not the “run it back” type. There will be changes.

And well before we weigh in on moves the Rangers will have made to what could be Bruce Bochy’s final Opening Day roster here, we’re going to spend plenty of time speculating on what those moves might look like.

Time to get to work — with the sweet background music of the Astros getting summarily booted winlessly out of the postseason to the heavy underdog Tigers (who got spanked by the Guardians yesterday in their ALDS opener), extending Houston’s home playoff losing streak to six, the middle four of those at the hands of the Rangers 12 months ago.

Gauche? Maybe. But man, that was all kinds of sports-awesome.

On to the first offseason Hops.
