Sasaki is being posted. What are the realistic odds we can attract him to come here?

Jeremy, quick question. Has Scott Boras ruined MLB free agency? Signings just go at a snails pace compared to other sports. I think it is Boras and his strategy holding out for the perfect 100% win. Certainly screwed it up for his big time clients last free agency cycle.

Great stuff Jamey! I just smile reading your historical articles about the Rangers and DFW sports. I feel like we grew up on the same block. I just turned 60 and grew up in Ft Worth . . . Spent the summers at Arlington Stadium chasing foul balls down the line with 20 other kids when there were maybe 5,000 people in the Stadium. Watching Toby Harrah play short, Mike Hargrove adjust his gloves for 3-minutes every pitch, and listening to my mom talk about how cute Joe Lovitto was. I remember my family making a 'Go Rangers' sign out of window screens and getting to march them around down on the field on 'Sign Night' (or something like that) and being there on the night David Clyde debuted.

I wore a Roger Staubach jersey in front yard football games all Fall, and got to go to an occasional Cowboys game, as well as an occasional Dallas Chaparrals and Ft Worth Texans game. But baseball & the Rangers were my first love.

So thanks for continually bringing back all the nostalgia and smiles!

When I signed up for Jamey's Substack I picked the screen name Buddy Jenkins as the mix between Buddy Bell and Fergie Jenkins.

Nice. Similar tone -- I think I'm losing the battle, but I still want to name one of our next two dogs "Cliff Lee." Don't think my wife's on board, though.

FANTASTIC read as always Jamey.

Hey, thanks....

Perfectly explained. As a born and raised Dallasite, (Cowboys aside) we are seeing the absolute best “GMing” around here for our teams. Well done (as always), Jamey. Thank you.

Right? Good time to be a fan around here (in this "football town").

When I saw Skip’s hire I couldn’t help but wonder if there was an ulterior motive about getting the inside scoop on the talent in Miami, which seems to be on sale.

If Chris Young is playing chess, Jerrah seems to be playing Go Fish…

Not to nitpick Jamey or Twitter but Dallas only got a #5 for Amari Cooper because he was owed 60 Million on his contract and no one else would pay that. He was also rumored to have worn out his welcome in the locker room. Cleveland paid him 59 Million for 174 catches.

Wingo didn't actually cost a #4, he cost swapping a 4 for a 7 that is at the top of the round. Dallas moved down 2.5 rounds for a guy with 1st round talent. Its a gamble but his play on the field will show if it was a good one or not.

I think Mingo is a GREAT move for the Cowboys. But then as a lifelong (78 years) fan of the 49ers, very little brings as much joy to my heart as a sad Cowboys fan. 😂

I’m with Jamey on this. In addition…….i like all the office moves……but none can hit a fastball…..and none can throw it 95 mph…..much less field a routine ground ball. Certainly it’ll lead to some smart free agency/trade moves soon. Secondly….I’ve moved on from the Boys…..and that’s not new……they are an afterthought in my sports world.

Great write-up, Jamey. I didn't see your tweet, but I also thought it was striking how close together these decisions were made between the Rangers and Cowboys. It's so refreshing to have a franchise that is well-run and properly divides responsibilities; an owner who cares about making profit but also likes to win, and a general manager who exclusively cares about winning and is given the tools to make that happen.

I've only ever been a football/baseball guy, but I've been watching more Hockey games this season to try and support well-run franchises in the DFW area. Looking forward to having at least one competent team to carry me through until Spring.

Good stuff Jamey. I think you spent WAY too much space on the Cowboys though!!

Maybe. I guess. I'm definitely interested in the groupthink when I venture off "100% baseball" like I did today. Was never a fit with The Athletic or D Magazine, obviously.

Well said. I listened to the ticket and the fan yesterday both discussing if the cowboys should play Dak once he returns from IR. They both spent 20 minutes on the topic. So done with the cowboys and the inconsequential noise they generate. Substance is happening with the other teams!

As a Cowboys/Rangers/Stars fan, I think its worthwhile to address. I truly don't know how realistic it is after 30+ years, but I have to hope that the more fans start to realize just how little there is to cling to with a Jerry Jones-Ran franchise, the odds that something actually changes would increase. On one hand, Jerry's greatest fear is not that this team goes 0-16, but that it starts to lose value relative to other franchises and/or starts to become irrelevant. They're coming dangerously close to that precipice, and while I'm not there yet, Jamey's descent into sports apathy is not uncommon among Cowboys fans right now.

Holding the Cowboys leadership accountable to their actions is something only the media can really do effectively, and I think its the only way we have any chance of actually seeing change happen. But maybe that's just the "Sports Fan Hope" in me, and we just have to wait until Stephen takes over 100% or we luck into a coaching hire like Detroit did with Dan Campbell.
